BPD Follow-Up Clinic

The BPD follow-up clinic is designed to care for NICU graduates with chronic lung disease requiring home oxygen therapy. The BPD clinic provides only pulmonary and oxygen management and exists as a complement to the patient’s pediatrician who provides primary and preventative care.

The BPD clinic’s goals are to wean the patient from oxygen therapy and other medical interventions for CLD as the patient’s pulmonary status improves with age, optimizing growth and development, and preventing the development of pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale.

Any NICU patient being discharged on oxygen should have a follow-up appointment made in the BPD clinic. The initial visit should be no more than 1 – 2 weeks after discharge. Subsequent visits will be scheduled every 2 – 4 weeks.

Prior to discharge, Odessa Settles, RN can be contacted to meet the family of a patient who will follow-up in BPD clinic to provide continuity of care. A copy of the discharge summary should be sent to the Pediatric Pulmonary office (S-0119 MCN).

Appointments can be arranged by calling the Pediatric Pulmonary office at ext. 3-7617.

The clinic’s hours of operation are:

9 am – 12 pm on Mondays: new patients only

        8 am – 12 pm on Wednesdays
