| Fresh frozen
plasma (FFP) and cryoprecipitate
FFP is indicated for the replacement of clotting factors in a patient with active bleeding, DIC, coags >1.25X normal, or an unspecified hereditary coagulopathy. FFP can also be given for volume expansion in the presence of abnormal coagulation. FFP is administered in 10 ml/kg aliquots over 30 minutes to 1 hour. FFP should be filtered before it’s given. For the patient with volume overload, an ongoing coagulopathy, and a fibrinogen < 100 mg%, a unit of cryoprecipitate can be administered as a adjunctive measure to improve coagulation. |
