Vanderbilt lactation consultants are available to assist mothers with expressing breast milk or learning to breast feed with their baby. VUMC lactation consultants perform consultations in the nursery as well as on an outpatient basis and by telephone.

The VUMC Womens’ Education and Lactation Center can be reached at 936-1414.

The nursery can page either Betty McDaniel (835-4859)

or Beth James (835-0950) for assistance.

A schedule is posted in the nursery regarding who is available.

On weekends and holidays, use a unique pager number: 835-0951.

The VUMC Women’s Education and Lactation Center (936-1414) sells breastfeeding equipment, but they are unable to rent. Rentals can be obtained at Expressly Yours (791-6311), at Pumps Aplenty (833-7802) or at Centennial Hospital Monday through Friday 8 – 4:30. For mothers who live in Tennessee and receive WIC support, electric breast pumps can be obtained from the local WIC office. For mothers from out of state, check with a Lactation Consultant for possible rentals available in Nashville or call the Medela hotline (1-800-TELL-YOU) for the location of the rental station closest to the family’s home.
