Transport: Follow-up calls to the referring physician

In order to further physician education and to cultivate better relations with the pediatric and neonatal physicians in our region, it is important for the Vanderbilt NICU staff to provide follow-up information and feed-back to referring physicians after a neonatal transport.

The neonatology fellow or attending taking the original transport request or admitting the patient should call the referring physician within 24 hours after the patient arrives (the sooner the better) to provide them with information regarding the baby’s diagnosis, course, and prognosis.

Discussed at the Regionalization & Transport Meeting 1/16/02.
